Night of Ideas in Halifax
Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21
Thu, Feb 9, 2023 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Alliance Française Halifax and its partners invite you to join them on Thursday February 9, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm for the Night of Ideas. This year, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 will host this global event supported by the French embassy in Canada, Discovery Centre and Radio Canada Acadie. The night will be in person and online and offered in English and French thanks to an interpretation service.
The global theme in 2023: More?
This theme chosen by l’Institut français refers to the current events around us. In Halifax, the partners decided to approach this question from several angles in order to bring more suggestions and more expertise. The following issue was chosen: More? Climate, Sports and Communities: shifting the game(s)?
Speakers:
- Michelle Russell: Professional kayaker and member of the Canadian Olympic team.
- Eric Monnin: Vice-President of the Université Franche-Compté and member of the Olympic Education Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
More speakers will be announced soon.
What is the Night of Ideas?
The Night of Ideas was launched in 2016. It has quickly become a key event in both the French and the international agenda offering opportunities for inter-disciplinary dialogue on the issues of our day. Every year, a new theme is proposed and everyone can interpret it in their own way.
One year before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a few months before the North American Indigenous Games and at a period when climate change is disrupting our daily lives, several specialists will gather. At the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax, they will exchange and share their respective experiences. This venue is consistent with the event, since immigration and migratory flows play significant roles in both sport and climate change. This event will be simultaneously broadcast online.
