A hero, a demi-goddess who became human for love, a giant transformed into a dragon, dwarves overcome by greed, gods locked in struggle, a ring of power, and a shattered sword of destiny. Experience an opera where myth and human drama intertwine on an epic scale.
The third opera in the monumental 4-part music drama Des Ring der Nibelungen ("The Ring of the Niebelung") by Richard Wagner, SIEGFRIED is presented in a brand-new production by The Atlanta Opera. This is the first time the Ring cycle has been presented in the Southeast and the new production, by the creative team of Tomer Zvulun and Erhard Rom, brings this sweeping epic to the stage under the baton of Roberto Kalb.
The heroic tenor Stefan Vinke, "singing with passion and charisma" (New York Classical Review) leads the superior cast, which includes soprano Lise Lindstrom, "vocally magnificent" (Classical Voice America) as the radiant Brunnhilde, Zachary Nelson, "a bold, burly baritone" (Dallas News) as the tyrant Alberich, and the international icon Greer Grimsley the fading ruler of the gods called the "Wanderer."
A groundbreaking composer who changed music forever, Richard Wagner wrote operas that charged emotions, stretched the limits of tonality, and drove into the depths of human psychology. His work transformed ancient Norse and German mythology in ways that echo in today's "Marvel Universe" and directly inspired the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Don't miss the work that started it all!
