The Theater Bug: 'Field Day'
Nashville School of the Arts
Thu, Jun 12 - 14 All day
One of the many things I love about The Theater Bug is that its young artists have the opportunity to work with such a wide range of theater professionals. Guided by an accomplished team of writers, directors, choreographers and musicians, these students build confidence — and community — through the performing arts. They’re back at it this weekend, presenting the world premiere of Field Day by Nate Eppler. An award-winning playwright, screenwriter and teaching artist, Eppler has long been a driving force in Nashville’s theater community, having penned hit plays such as The Ice Treatment, Primary User, Long Way Down and, more recently, Human Resources. He’s also the director of the Bug’s innovative youth writing program, The Playground. With Field Day, Eppler digs into rich themes of friendship and fairness, following a team of “misfit underdogs” who take on the reigning seniors in “a school-sanctioned, no-holds-barred battleground with water balloons and matching T-shirts.” Anastasia Teel directs a terrific young cast, with set design by Diana DeGarmo and costumes by Holly Urbanowicz.
