Soft Junk

A year ago, patrons could Venmo Meg Elsier for a pre-show spaghetti buffet in the parking lot outside Soft Junk, Nic Schurman’s intimate Gallatin Avenue venue that functions like a rec room for East Nashville indie acts. Since then, Elsier’s 2024 debut album Spittake has had time to take root. The album stitches together rhythmic grunge gems like “baby” with the smooth gloom of lead track “ifshitfuq” into a medieval grunge tapestry, all wrapped in the lacy armor and tonal synths of a warped and sexy Middle Ages. She’ll headline the Soft Junk stage alongside Liz Cooper, whose buoyant banjo and twang helped a generation pass the 2010s. Thursday night’s Nashville performance caps a nine-show run for Elsier, who joined forces with Cooper for shows in Brooklyn; Washington, D.C.; and Durham, N.C. ELI MOTYCKA
