Beyond Quaint
Golden Bough Playhouse
Tue, Jul 8 5:30pm
“Quaint” is the word most often used to describe Carmel by those who live, work and visit—an ode to the preserved quirky downtown, shingled roofs, mossy tree cover, eclectic homes and secret cobbled pathways. But the documentary Don’t Pave Main Street (narrated by Clint Eastwood) aims to show that Carmel is more than quaint. It has a rich cultural history, shaped by Native Americans, explorers and missionaries, writers and artists. The film explored the ongoing tension between preserving the heritage and the unique charm of Carmel against the pressures of development. The film will be shown at the Golden Bough Playhouse, with an introduction by Mayor Dale Byrne. [KR]
