[AMERICANA POP] A former member of both Sidestar and Castella, Ryan VanDordrecht is a relatively unsung indie force. The Portland-based musician turned out Beast of Love in 2014, a folk-kissed rock record reminiscent of Fruit Bats or early Shins. Since then, he’s done some collaborating and released a couple of promising singles that move his catchy sound closer to pop-rock territory.
