The Hindrances and Beyond
The Lodge at Quietude
Mon, Apr 21 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Eventually, through meditation practices or simply living life as we do, that which appears to hinder or constrain us will present itself. On the journey of Awakening these challenging energies in the bodymind can initially carry significant weight. As one stays interested and dedicated to the learning within what is occurring the mind's relationship to what is present clarifies. Habitual conditioned reactions can suddenly or seemingly more slowly transform. A responsiveness or openness appears, or is remembered, which releases or softens constraints and assists one in seeing more clearly the true nature of these moments. One can begin to see that life, being directly felt, is a spontaneous flow of energy that includes everything. This aspect of Awakening is profound in that the very occurrences that appeared hindering at first, turn out to be gifts that can awaken and deepen wisdom and compassion. The Beyond is not out there on some distant landscape, nor does it reside in thoughts or projections about the future. It is spacious, tender, vibrant and inherently present.
When it comes to these aspects of living it can be recognized that we have much more in common than in difference. The stories that appear in the mind about the hindrances can vary considerably, yet the common to all thread that lies beneath and beyond these stories is ever here and fundamentally undisturbed. Please join us this evening as we explore these themes within the context of guided meditation, dharma talk and inquiry.
Cancellation Notice: In case of storms or other safety concerns: Please check our website (thesocialsangha.com) to see if the event has been cancelled.
Danā: Access to community and wisdom should be available to everyone, so all sangha events are offered for free. Following ancient buddhist practice, we collect danā, a Pali word that means “generosity” or “giving freely. Danā is a practice of a mutual exchange of abundance. It develops lovingkindness and compassion, deepens awareness of our interconnectedness, and encourages non-attachment. If this kind of giving is available to you, there will be a donation box at this event. Donations will go to support our valued teacher. Any amount is welcome. One suggested amount is $15.
Parking: Please park at the front of The Lodge. Parking behind The Lodge is used by residents in the cabins. If we should run out of parking in the front, kindly park at the Black Mountain Wellness Center (1141 Montreat Rd.), which is just 50 yards further north and on the left when you continue up Montreat Road.
